The Mystery of Tally Ho cottage – The Mystery Series

(*) Cuốn sách tiếp theo được tình yêu bé review là truyện tiếng Anh “The Mystery of Tally Ho cottage” nằm trong bộ “The Mystery Series” của Enid Blyton. Đây là bộ truyện trinh thám phiêu lưu mà con rất thích. Lần này con sẽ sử dụng tiếng Anh làm ngôn ngữ viết review. Điều này gây khó khăn cho “biên tập viên” mẹ. Mẹ tốn nhiều thời gian để xác nhận, kiểm chứng thông tin mà con viết. Dù ban đầu con khá khó chịu khi phản biện với mẹ và cộng sự của mẹ (trợ lý của mẹ là Google Gemini) nhưng cuối cùng con rất vui khi chứng minh được các dẫn chứng, phân tích của mình là đúng đắn. Tuy vẫn còn một số lỗi mà “trợ lý của mẹ” nhận xét là ngữ pháp và hành văn chưa giống với văn viết nhưng tổng thể đây là một bài review tốt. Đặc biệt là những phần bày tỏ quan điểm cá nhân của chàng trai 12 tuổi đã gây ấn tượng cho mẹ. Dù để thực hiện được những điều mình nghĩ là vô cùng khó khăn, nhưng mẹ hi vọng một khi ý niệm tử tế đã được gieo thì sau này nó sẽ giúp con không lạc lối trên bước đường tương lai.

Sau đây là phần review bằng tiếng Anh của tình yêu bé dành cho cuốn sách “The Mystery of Tally Ho cottage”. Mình đính kèm thêm phần dịch tiếng Việt (do Google Gemini thực hiện) đối với một số đoạn thể hiện quan điểm cá nhân của con mà mình ấn tượng.

Throughout the years I read many books. And all of them are good books, but the one I’m going to write a review about, is a splendid book. This book belongs in a series called ”The mystery series” by Enid Blyton. The book is titled “The mystery of Tally Ho cottage” being Volume 12 in the series. The mystery series is a series about five kids that work together to solve mysteries. Their dream? To be the best detectives in the world? But can they achieve it? To find out you must read the books. The book I’m going to review today is one of them.

This book is about a mystery and a group of friends trying to solve it, but they have to be quick, because the town police is also trying to solve it.

Recap

During the summer the Five – Find outers are bored because there is no mystery for them to solve. But to their luck, there was a mystery that started out of nowhere. The Lorenzos, a family who just rented a house in the town of Peterswood, had stolen a priceless painting, and for some reason they left behind their poodle. Fatty and “The Five Find Outer” are on the case to find out where the Lorenzos are right now. But there is one thing that they don’t know. Goon had already started the case and was determined to solve it before Fatty did. But Fatty is not gonna give up. He decided to use his disguising skill to get some more information about the Lorenzos. But while he was investigating, he figured out something astonishing. Mr. and Mrs. Larkin, who are taking care of the poodle Poppet, are somehow the key to the mystery. Will the “Five Find Outers” solve the case? Or will it be Goon he gets the Chief’s Respect. You gotta read to find out!

Below I will do a short recap of two good chapters I’ve read.

Chapter 15 – Fatty is pleased

In this chapter, Fatty is down in the dumps, he hasn’t found any clues for the case yet, not only that Mr Goon has more clues than him. But Fatty had made a phone call to the “Chief”, he is really hoping the “Chief ” will help him get some clues for the case. However, when the chief arrives at Fatty house he doesn’t look so pleased. When the “Chief ” enters the room, he looks angry. When he enters the room, he tells Fatty what Mr Goon told him. Goon claims that Fatty had locked him up in a boiler room. Fatty was flabbergasted. Because he knows that Mr Goon always blames Fatty, when something didn’t go his way. So Fatty has to explain everything to the “Chief” after hearing Fatty’s tale, the “Chief” seems relaxed. He told Fatty that he will think twice before trusting Goon or any of his tales from now on. He also told Fatty that, if he wanted help from the ‘Chief,’ he was welcome to ask him, and he truly hoped that fatty can solve the case once and for all.

In this chapter we can see that, highly rated people, there can still be one person that defies all the rules, and tries to make things easy for them. Those can be called Egoist people. And you should not be them. Every single human being in society has the right to be better than you, in some way. And that can annoy you. But that doesn’t give the right to try and stop them from thriving, doing that is just showing that you are a sore loser. In life there will be times when someone will be better than you. And you must find a different way to thrive on your own, not to try to stop others. That’s what Goon did in this chapter, making him the antagonist in most parts of the book. I like this chapter, because it shows the evils will always get exposed.

Chapter 23 – A truly remarkable tale!

In this chapter Fatty had done it again. He has found all the evidence he needed. So he called the “Chief” . He also told the chief to bring Mr Goon here to show his proof. When everyone arrives, Fatty has a big grin on his face. He explained his evidence. The “Larkins” which everyone claims to be innocent. Turns out “Lorenzo” themself. Turns out the Lorenzos had disguised themself as the Larkins. The real Larkins had already left the place on the motor boat the other night. The reason “The Five Find Outer” knows this is because of a rubber bone. The reason is that the Lorenzos forgot to hide the rubber bone that belonged to their dog. This shows that the Lorenzos are still here, just in disguise. In the end. Goon never got the respect he deserved and The Five Find-Outers has solved the case again.

I like this chapter because we see the brilliance of Fatty, where he defies the odds and succeeds. While Mr Goon, who tried to play dirty, failed to solve the case. We learn that if we want success we must earn them, and not to play dirty like Mr Goon.

Final thought

I really like this book, the only thing I don’t like about it is the high level of British vocabulary, I struggle to understand some of the words. But later on I can understand them. This book is great for intermediate English learners as they can boost their vocabulary.
